day 8: ...
the floor beneath sam's hands was slippery. she pushed at the ground, but her hands slid out from under her and her back slammed onto the tile floor.
as the world came into better focus, sam recognized the kitchen. and it was a mess. she managed to sit up on the floor, and she felt sharp pains up and down her arms.
she looked at her arms. deep lacerations decorated them up and down. she could barely see her flesh through all the blood.
before she could even start to panic about that, she noticed the blood covering the floor. it was spread everywhere like red fingerpaint. she crawled across the floor and felt something warm and squishy under her hand. she picked it up and saw an unidentifiable chunk of meat slipping and sliding in her grip. her hand sprung open and the meat dropped to the floor with a wet plop.
sam didn't know where that had come from. she looked around the kitchen, but everything was still so blurry. she crawled a bit farther across the floor, and she came across something else that was warm. but this wasn't a slab of meat.
she looked hard at the giant lump on the ground before her. it was slowly coming into better focus, and she began to be able to recognize-
sam gasped. she recognized fingers, a face, intestines...
she threw up right there on the floor, her stomach purging itself. her head cleared a bit more, and she was able to see the kitchen in its entirety.
there was blood everywhere. knives were strewn across the floor. a man, ripped to pieces, was piled in front of her. a little over to the side she saw two torn up children, and across the room she was able to recognize the gutted corpse as being a woman.
it wasn't her kitchen. and the entire family who lived there had been ripped apart. sam dry heaved for a moment, but there was nothing left in her stomach to come out.
"how the hell did i end up here?"
she had no idea how she'd gotten into this house. she was nauseated and horrified and also relieved that the killer, whoever he was, hadn't ripped her apart, too.
her left arm began to sting even worse. she looked down and saw her right hand holding a knife, twisting the blade into her skin.
"oh god!" she cried out, dropping the knife. it clattered to the floor, and she watched as blood poured out of the aggravated cut in her arm. sam looked down at her hands and saw bits of flesh and gore stuck under her fingernails. her hands looked like they'd just got done tearing someone apa-
she stumbled backward and into a wall. her breath came out in gasps and she thought her heart would explode in her chest. she couldn't breathe. couldn't. breathe.
sam ran out of the house and stepped into her neighborhood. she had been in her neighbors' house.
