day 7: home
"ow."
sam rubbed her side as woke up. for some reason, it was hurting. as she sat up she realized why.
"how the fuck did i get in the kitchen?"
she stood up and looked around. somehow, she'd fallen asleep on the kitchen floor. she could hear that the tv was still on in the living room. her throat felt scratchy, and she got a drink of water. it helped, but not a lot. she went into the living room and turned off the tv. she glanced outside, but there were no cars. the house was empty except for her.
sam went into the kitchen to get another drink of water.
"mine too," her mother said. "it seems that there aren't enough-"
"huh?" sam interrupted.
"i was saying that there aren't enough employees to keep the company running right now," sam's mother answered.
"oh." sam was confused. her parents weren't home just a moment ago. but there they were now, holding a conversation in the kitchen.
her parents kept talking, and sam could tell some of it was directed at her. she nodded. her head felt dizzy and their voices weren't reaching her.
"-ok, hon?" her mother asked.
sam nodded.
